Hot hot solstice cocoa

Another napping baby, another short, photo free post. Good thing I have another item that isn't amazing to observe on the outside, but warms the cockles of one's soul on the inside. Hehe. Cockles. Plus it's a short day, being solstice and all; it's a great way to celebrate in the dark!

Serves 2 (because are you drinking hot cocoa alone? Aww. Skype someone and chat while you drink their share.)

2 cups milk (whole. Be real.)
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1-2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4-1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
Pinch of salt
1/2 cup hot water

Place all the ingredients but the milk in a small sauce pan over medium heat. Stir until dissolved. Add milk and heat through, stopping before it boils. Taste and adjust the sugar.

For an extra kick in the pants of your holiday spirit, add 2 oz of rum, brandy, or other liquor of your choice. Scotch is, in fact, not the best option. Better have that for your other hand.

This recipe is really fun to play with. Coconut milk (NOT chemical bomb coconut "drink") is awesome in place of the milk; or leave out the vanilla and cayenne and try almond or peppermint extract instead.  Any other crazy combos out there? I'd be interested to see if anyone has had success adding raspberry or something.
